Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in a crispier fry.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato sticks to the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve the Fries

Transfer the seasoned fries to a serving platter or individual plates. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
