Burger Patty Preparation

Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Form Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

Add Beef
Add ground beef to the pot and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Remaining Ingredients
Stir in kidney beans, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place shredded cheddar cheese on top of each patty, cover, and allow the cheese to melt.
Assembly

Prepare Buns
While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Assemble Burgers
Spread mustard on the bottom half of each bun. Place the cheeseburger patty on top, then generously spoon the chili over the cheese. Top with pickle slices and close the burger with the top half of the bun.
