Cooking the Pasta

Prepare the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

Cook the Spaghetti
Add 8 oz of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Making the Chili

Brown the Beef
In a large skillet or pot, add 1 lb of ground beef over medium heat. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

Combine Ingredients
Stir in 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can of red kidney beans, 2 tablespoons of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 cup of water.

Simmer the Chili
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combine Pasta and Chili
In a large serving bowl, layer the drained spaghetti and top it generously with the chili mixture.

Add Toppings
Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and 0.5 cup of chopped green onions on top of the chili.
