Method

Pie Crust

  1. 1

    Prepare the Crust

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Divide the dough into two halves, shape each into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Apple Filling

  1. 4

    Prepare the Apples

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss to coat the apples evenly.

  2. 5

    Set Aside

Let the apple mixture sit for about 15 minutes to allow the juices to develop.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 7

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to fit your pie dish. Place it in the dish and trim the edges.

  3. 8

    Add Filling

Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  4. 9

    Top the Pie

Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling. Cut slits in the top crust for steam vents and crimp the edges to seal.

  5. 10

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  6. 11

    Cool

Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the pie and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
