Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss until the shrimp are well coated. Set aside to marinate for about 15 minutes.

Breading Mixture

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, and a pinch of salt. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. In a third dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.

  2. 3

    Coat the Shrimp

Take each marinated shrimp and first dip it into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat it with the panko breadcrumbs. Ensure each shrimp is well coated and place them on a baking sheet.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread into it; if it sizzles and browns quickly, it’s ready.

  2. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until the shrimp are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and drain them on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve Hot

Serve the crispy popcorn shrimp hot with lemon wedges and cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
