Fries

Method

Preparation of Fries

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Cut them into thin strips about 1/4 inch thick to create fries.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the water and spread the fries on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Pat them dry to remove any excess moisture.

Frying the Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Fry in Batches

Carefully add a handful of the dried fries to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 6

    Drain the Fries

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt while they are still hot.

Adding Cajun Seasoning

  1. 7

    Prepare Cajun Seasoning

In a small bowl, mix together paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, dried oregano, dried thyme, and black pepper.

  2. 8

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle the Cajun seasoning mix over them. Toss the fries gently to ensure they are evenly coated.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve the Fries

Transfer the seasoned Cajun fries to a serving platter and enjoy them hot as a delicious snack or side dish.
