Method
Fish Preparation
- 1
Choose Your Fish
Select either Tilapia or Catfish fillets. If desired, you can mix both types for variety.
- 2
Rinse and Pat Dry
Rinse the fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps the batter adhere better.
Breading Mixture Preparation
- 3
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
Batter Preparation
- 4
Breading the Fish
- 5
Coat the Fish
Dip each fillet first into the batter mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat thoroughly in the breading mixture. Place on a lined tray.
Frying
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 7
Fry the Fish
Carefully place the breaded fillets into the hot oil, working in batches if necessary. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 8
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the fillets from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
