Make the Espresso
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

Prepare the Egg Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Whisk the egg yolks with 1 cup of sugar until the mixture becomes pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone
Gently fold in 16 oz of mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth and well combined.

Prepare Coffee Mixture
In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer the Tiramisu
In a 9x9 inch or similar sized dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

Repeat Layers
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.

Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
Serving

Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
