Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until combined.
- 4
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest setting (around 475°F or 245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking tray inside to heat up.
- 7
Prepare Tomatoes
Slice the fresh tomatoes into thin rounds and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Set aside.
- 8
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into your desired pizza shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 9
Add Toppings
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or a parchment-lined tray. Drizzle olive oil over the base, then arrange the sliced mozzarella cheese and tomatoes evenly on top. Add fresh basil leaves.
- 10
Bake Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking tray. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 11
Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot. Enjoy your Margherita Pizza!
