Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 7

    Shape Knots

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10 inches long and tie it into a knot.

  3. 8

    Arrange on Baking Sheet

Place the knots on a greased baking sheet, spacing them apart. Let them rise for another 15-20 minutes.

  4. 9

    Bake the Knots

Bake the knots in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Garlic Butter Preparation

  1. 10

    Melt Butter

In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat.

  2. 11

    Add Garlic and Seasonings

Stir in the minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 12

    Brush on Knots

Once the knots are baked, immediately brush them with the garlic butter mixture.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 13

    Cook Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute.

  2. 14

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
