Method

For the Garlic Cheese Toast

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the French bread in half lengthwise to create two long pieces.

  2. 2

    Make the Garlic Butter

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.

  3. 3

    Spread the Mixture

Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the French bread.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the buttered bread.

  5. 5

    Bake the Toast

Place the prepared bread on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are golden brown.

  6. 6

    Slice and Serve

Remove from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice into pieces and serve warm.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Heat the Oil

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil and allow it to heat.

  2. 8

    Sauté the Onion and Garlic

Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Then, add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  3. 9

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine all ingredients.

  4. 10

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.

  5. 11

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or sugar as needed.

  6. 12

    Serve

Serve the marinara sauce warm alongside the garlic cheese toast.
