Dough Ingredients

For Cooking

Method

Making the Dough

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add water to the flour mixture, mixing with your fingers or a spoon until it starts to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Rest the Dough

Form the dough into a ball and place it back in the bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Cooking the Paratha

  1. 5

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into equal portions, about the size of a golf ball.

  2. 6

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, take one portion of dough and flatten it slightly. Roll it out into a circle about 6-7 inches in diameter.

  3. 7

    Add Ghee or Oil

Brush a thin layer of ghee or oil on the surface of the rolled-out dough.

  4. 8

    Fold the Dough

Fold the dough in half, creating a semi-circle. Brush more ghee or oil on the surface and fold it again to form a triangle shape.

  5. 9

    Roll the Triangle

Gently roll the triangle out into a larger circle, about 7-8 inches in diameter.

  6. 10

    Cook the Paratha

Heat a tawa or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the rolled paratha on the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown spots appear.

  7. 11

    Add Ghee or Oil Again

Flip the paratha and brush with ghee or oil. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until both sides are crispy and golden.

  8. 12

    Repeat

Remove the cooked paratha and keep it warm in a covered container. Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.
