Method
Fry Preparation
- 1
- 2
Cut the Potatoes
Cut each potato into thick slices, about 1/2 inch wide, and then cut those slices into strips to create rustic fries. Aim for uniform size for even cooking.
- 3
Soak the Fries
Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps achieve a crispier fry.
- 4
Dry the Fries
After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove moisture. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy texture.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure accurate temperature.
- 6
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Season
Once cooked, remove the fries with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt to taste.
