Method
Tofu Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Wrap the firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Place a heavy object on top, such as a cast-iron skillet or a large can, to press the water out of the tofu. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
After pressing, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes or rectangles, depending on your preference.
- 3
Marinate the Tofu
In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce and sesame oil. Add the tofu cubes and gently toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- 4
Coat the Tofu
Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss gently until all pieces are evenly coated.
Frying
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Ensure the oil is hot before adding the tofu.
- 6
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Season
Once the tofu is golden brown, remove it from the oil using a slotted spoon and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 8
Serve
Serve the fried tofu warm as an appetizer or as a protein addition to salads, stir-fries, or grain bowls.
