Method

Tortilla Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the water and vegetable oil. Stir with a fork or your hands until a dough begins to form.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This helps to relax the gluten.

  5. 5

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.

  6. 6

    Roll Out the Tortillas

On a floured surface, take one ball of dough and use a rolling pin to roll it out into a 14-inch circle. Aim for an even thickness.

  7. 7

    Cook the Tortilla

Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the rolled-out tortilla on the skillet and cook for about 1 minute on each side, or until lightly browned and cooked through.

  8. 8

    Repeat Cooking

Repeat the rolling and cooking process with the remaining dough balls. Keep the cooked tortillas warm by stacking them and covering them with a clean towel.
