Chimichanga Filling

Method

Chimichanga Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Beef Filling

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables and Seasoning

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced green chilies, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onions are softened.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Tortillas

Warm the flour tortillas in a microwave or skillet for about 30 seconds to make them pliable.

  4. 4

    Fill the Tortillas

Place 1/4 of the beef filling in the center of each tortilla. Fold in the sides and roll tightly to form a burrito shape.

Frying the Chimichangas

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Chimichangas

Carefully place 2-3 chimichangas in the hot oil, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 7

    Top and Serve

Place the fried chimichangas on a serving plate. Top each with sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and diced tomato. Serve immediately.
