Flan Ingredients

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Make the Caramel

In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat to high and boil without stirring until the mixture turns a deep amber color. Remove from heat and quickly pour it into a flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Flan Mixture

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Bake the Flan

Pour the flan mixture over the set caramel in the mold. Place the mold in a larger baking dish filled with hot water (water bath). Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until set. The flan should jiggle slightly in the center.

  4. 4

    Cool and Serve

Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert onto a serving plate, and drizzle with any remaining caramel sauce.
