Tortilla Shell
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix well. Make a well in the center and add vegetable oil and water. Mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- 3
Roll Out the Tortillas
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten it with a rolling pin into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.
- 4
Fry the Tortillas
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add a tortilla to the skillet and fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
- 5
Drain and Cool
Remove the fried tortillas from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Let them cool slightly before serving.
