Method
Fried Pickles Directions
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the sliced dill pickles and pat them dry with paper towels. This will help prevent the batter from becoming soggy.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. In a separate bowl, pour in the buttermilk. Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles, it's ready.
- 4
Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- 5
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
