Doughnut Ingredients
Method
Doughnut Preparation
- 1
Make the Doughnut Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- 2
Shape the Doughnuts
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it just until smooth. Roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts. Place them on a floured baking sheet.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Fry the Doughnuts
Carefully drop the doughnuts into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Sprinkle and Serve
While still warm, sprinkle the fried doughnuts with powdered sugar. Serve them in a paper bag with raspberry and chocolate dipping sauces on the side.
