Tuna Salad

Method

Prepare Tuna Salad

  1. 1

    Drain and Flake Tuna

Open the canned tuna and drain the liquid. In a mixing bowl, flake the tuna with a fork until it's broken into smaller pieces.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add mayonnaise, diced celery, finely chopped red onion, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper to the flaked tuna. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.

  3. 3

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the tuna salad and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more salt or pepper to taste.

Assemble and Cook Tuna Melt

  1. 4

    Prepare Bread

Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.

  2. 5

    Add Tuna Salad

On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, spread an even layer of the tuna salad.

  3. 6

    Add Cheese and Vegetables

Place a slice of American cheese on top of the tuna salad. Then, add a lettuce leaf and a few slices of tomato on top of the cheese.

  4. 7

    Top and Grill

Place the other two slices of bread on top, buttered side up. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwiches in the skillet.

  5. 8

    Cook Until Golden

Cook the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted. You may need to press down slightly on the sandwiches with a spatula.

  6. 9

    Serve

Remove the tuna melts from the skillet, cut them in half if desired, and serve warm.
