Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 2 liters of water to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water to enhance flavor.

  3. 3

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 200 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  4. 4

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 5

    Heat Olive Oil

In a medium saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  2. 6

    Sauté Garlic

Add 3 minced garlic cloves to the oil and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn.

  3. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in 400 grams of canned crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 0.5 teaspoons of salt, 0.25 teaspoons of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar.

  4. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.

  6. 10

    Garnish

Serve the pasta hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
