Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk. Mix well. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

Coating the Onion Rings

  1. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Then, coat the ring in breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully drop a few coated onion rings into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.

  3. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once cooked, remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
