Method

Fried Shrimp

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Peel and devein the shrimp, leaving the tails on. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.

  3. 3

    Coat the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture until well coated.

  4. 4

    Fry the Shrimp

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the shrimp in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Coleslaw

  1. 5

    Mix the Vegetables

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and carrots.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Dressing

In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 7

    Combine and Chill

Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to coat. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

French Fries

  1. 8

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into thin strips.

  2. 9

    Soak the Potatoes

Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  3. 10

    Fry the Potatoes

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato strips in batches for 4-5 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.

Tartar Sauce

  1. 11

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, chopped pickles, capers, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard until well combined.

  2. 12

    Chill the Sauce

Refrigerate the tartar sauce for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
