Burger Assembly

Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ground Beef

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, slightly larger than the burger buns to account for shrinkage during cooking.

Cook the Burger Patty

  1. 3

    Heat the Grill or Pan

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, you may add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the hot grill or pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, until browned, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to allow the cheese to melt.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 6

    Slice the Tomato

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato into even slices.

  2. 7

    Prepare Lettuce and Pickles

Wash the lettuce leaves and pat dry. Prepare pickles by slicing them if they are whole.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 9

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cheeseburger patty. Add tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
