Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Chop Vegetables

Finely chop the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic cloves.

  2. 2

    Prepare Meat

In a large bowl, mix the ground beef and ground pork together until well combined.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Brown the Meat

Add the combined ground beef and pork to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 6

    Deglaze with Wine

Pour in the red wine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Allow the wine to reduce by half, about 5 minutes.

  5. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Broth

Stir in the canned tomatoes and beef broth. Add the dried oregano, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper.

  6. 8

    Simmer

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pasta Preparation

  1. 9

    Cook Spaghetti

While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Serving

  1. 10

    Combine and Serve

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the Bolognese sauce. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
