Method
Pizza Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 5
Sauté Garlic
In a saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- 6
Cook Sauce
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Assembling The Pizza
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 8
Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 9
Add Sauce
Spread a generous amount of the marinara sauce over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 10
Add Cheese and Toppings
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the sauce. Add fresh basil leaves for garnish.
- 11
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 12
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
