Method

Filling

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into thin wedges. Place them into a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

Add granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, raisins, lemon juice, and cornstarch to the apples. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

Dough

  1. 3

    Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add water and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 5

    Roll Out the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into two portions. Roll each portion out on a floured surface as thin as possible. Brush with melted butter.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Fill the Dough

Spoon the apple filling along one edge of the rolled-out dough, leaving about 2 inches from the edge. Fold the sides over the filling and roll it up tightly.

  2. 7

    Bake the Strudel

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the strudel seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with melted butter.

  3. 8

    Cook Until Golden

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Topping

  1. 9

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and cinnamon together. Dust the mixture over the cooled strudel before serving.
