Directions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Roux

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux, which should be a light golden color.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually add the milk to the roux, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture is thickened and bubbly, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

  5. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs and grated parmesan cheese.

  7. 7

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish, sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove the mac and cheese from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy, cheesy mac and cheese!
