Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Spaghetti

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 8 oz of spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse, as you want the pasta to retain some of its starch for the sauce.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Sauté Garlic

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 2 teaspoons of minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in 28 oz of crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix well to combine.

  3. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

  4. 6

    Finish the Sauce

Once the sauce is ready, stir in 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Combining and Serving

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with marinara sauce. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti warm, garnished with extra grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
