Preparation

Prepare Soy Chashu

1. Marinate Tofu

Press the tofu to remove excess water, then slice it into thick slabs. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, mirin, sugar, minced garlic, ginger, and water. Place tofu in the marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.

2. Cook Tofu

In a skillet over medium heat, add the marinated tofu along with the marinade. Cook for 10-15 minutes, flipping occasionally until the tofu absorbs the sauce and becomes caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare Takana

3. Sauté Takana

In a separate pan, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Add takana and soy sauce and cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Assemble the Donburi

4. Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, place a serving of cooked rice. Top it with slices of soy chashu and sautéed takana. Drizzle with additional soy sauce if desired and enjoy!
