Fried Oysters

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oysters

Rinse the oysters under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Place them in a bowl and pour buttermilk over them. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Coat the Oysters

Remove the oysters from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each oyster in the flour mixture until well coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Oysters

Fry the oysters in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried oysters on a bed of greens for a salad presentation or as a standalone appetizer.
