Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cut the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean towel. This step is crucial for achieving crispiness.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the crispy French fries hot, with your favorite dipping sauces.
