Baguette Ingredients
Method
Baguette Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- 3
Make Dough
Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Add shredded cheddar cheese and chopped jalapenos, mixing until evenly incorporated.
- 4
Knead Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 6
Shape Baguette
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a baguette form and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Second Rise
Cover the shaped baguettes with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 8
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 9
Bake
Before baking, make a few diagonal slashes on top of each baguette. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- 10
Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
