Method

Preparation of Fruits

  1. 1

    Prepare the Fruits

Wash all the fruits thoroughly. Slice the oranges and lemons into thin rounds. Core the apples and cut them into wedges. If using, slice the peaches or plums into thin slices. Halve the berries if they are large.

Mixing the Sangria

  1. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pitcher, combine the sliced oranges, lemons, apple wedges, sliced peaches or plums, and halved berries.

  2. 3

    Add Liquids

Pour the red wine over the fruits, followed by the orange juice and brandy or orange liqueur. Stir gently to mix.

  3. 4

    Sweeten and Spice

Add sugar to taste and drop in the cinnamon stick. Stir again to ensure the sugar dissolves and the flavors meld.

Chill and Serve

  1. 5

    Chill

Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to blend.

  2. 6

    Serve

Just before serving, add soda water or lemon-lime soda for fizz. Serve the sangria over ice in glasses, making sure to include some fruit in each glass.
