Bagel Ingredients

Method

Bagel Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Bagels

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, and then poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.

  4. 4

    Boil the Bagels

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Carefully drop bagels into the boiling water (2-3 at a time) and boil for 1 minute on each side. Remove and let drain.

  5. 5

    Bake the Bagels

Place the boiled bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Serve with Cream Cheese

Let the bagels cool slightly. Slice them in half and spread with cream cheese before serving.
