Method

Brewing the Tea

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a kettle or pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Steep the Tea

Once the water is boiling, remove it from the heat and add the 4 black tea bags. Let them steep for about 5-7 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.

  3. 3

    Remove Tea Bags

After steeping, remove the tea bags from the pot and discard them.

Sweetening the Tea

  1. 4

    Add Sugar

While the tea is still warm, add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the brewed tea. Stir well until the sugar completely dissolves.

  2. 5

    Add Cold Water

Pour in 2 cups of cold water to dilute the tea and cool it down. Stir to combine.

Serving

  1. 6

    Chill the Tea

If desired, refrigerate the sweet tea for at least 1 hour to chill before serving.

  2. 7

    Add Optional Flavoring

For added flavor, you can garnish with fresh mint leaves and lemon slices before serving.

  3. 8

    Serve

Pour the sweet tea into glasses filled with ice and enjoy your refreshing southern sweet tea!
