Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Prepare the Roux

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens (about 5-7 minutes).

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheese

Reduce heat to low and add the shredded cheddar cheese and cream cheese. Stir until fully melted and combined.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine.

Combining and Serving

  1. 6

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.

  2. 7

    Prepare Topping

If using, mix breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese in a small bowl.

  3. 8

    Serve

Transfer the mac and cheese to a serving dish. Top with crumbled bacon, and if desired, sprinkle the breadcrumb and Parmesan mixture on top. Serve immediately.
