Fried Oysters
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Oysters
Rinse the fresh oysters under cold water and drain them well.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until combined.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Oysters
Dip each oyster into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
- 5
Fry the Oysters
Carefully place the battered oysters in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried oysters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
