Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks.

  2. 2

    Season the Meat

In a large bowl, combine cumin, oregano, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork pieces.

  3. 3

    Set Up Slow Cooker

Place the seasoned pork in the slow cooker. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, bay leaves, and juice from the lime and orange. Pour the broth over the top.

  4. 4

    Cook

Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  5. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.

  6. 6

    Crisp the Carnitas (Optional)

For crispy carnitas, spread the shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 5-10 minutes until the edges are crispy.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the carnitas with tortillas, rice, beans, and your favorite toppings.
