Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a golf ball. You should get approximately 12-15 meatballs.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F).

Shoe Assembly

  1. 4

    Prepare the Baguette

Slice the baguette in half lengthwise and hollow out the insides to create a 'shoe' shape, leaving the outer crust intact.

  2. 5

    Add the Marinara Sauce

Spread a generous layer of marinara sauce inside each half of the baguette.

  3. 6

    Add the Meatballs

Place the cooked meatballs evenly over the marinara sauce in each half of the baguette.

  4. 7

    Top with Cheese and Bake

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs and place the halves of the baguette on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  5. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven, top with fresh basil leaves, and serve immediately.
