In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground chicken, or chickpeas, depending on the choice of patty. Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, cumin, and paprika. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. The size can vary depending on preference, but each patty should be about 1 inch thick.

Cooking the patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
