Hushpuppies

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Hushpuppy Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg. Add to dry ingredients along with green onions. Stir until just combined.

  3. 3

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Hushpuppies

Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, turning once.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove hushpuppies from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with praline butter.
