Meatballs and Sauce
Method
Preparation
Make the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, currants, pine nuts, Grana Padano cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
Form the Meatballs
Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter.
Cook the Meatballs
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Prepare the Sauce
In the same skillet, add canned crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Add fresh basil and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine Meatballs and Sauce
Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for another 15-20 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.
Serve
Serve hot, garnished with additional Grana Padano cheese and fresh basil if desired.
