Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semisweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth. Let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Eggs and Sugar

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the large eggs, large egg yolks, and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Gently fold in the all-purpose flour until just combined.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Bake the ramekins in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, until the edges are firm but the center is soft. The tops should look set but slightly jiggly.

  7. 7

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the ramekins for 1-2 minutes.

  8. 8

    Invert and Serve

Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cake. Invert onto a plate and serve immediately, dusted with powdered sugar and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
