For the Onion Bhaji

Method

For the Onion Bhaji

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the onions thinly and place them in a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the dry mixture to the sliced onions and mix well. Ensure the onions are coated with the flour mixture.

  4. 4

    Add Cilantro and Water

Stir in the chopped cilantro and gradually add water to form a thick batter. The batter should cling to the onions.

  5. 5

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat until hot.

  6. 6

    Fry the Bhajis

Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crisp, about 4-5 minutes.

  7. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Remove the bhajis with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

For the Mint Chutney

  1. 8

    Blend Ingredients

In a blender, combine fresh mint leaves, cilantro, green chili, lemon juice, salt, and water.

  2. 9

    Process Until Smooth

Blend until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Adjust salt and lemon juice to taste.

  3. 10

    Serve

Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl and serve alongside the hot onion bhajis.
