Burger Patties

To Serve

Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Cook Sweet Potatoes

Peel and dice the sweet potatoes into small cubes. Steam or boil them until they are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Mash the Beans

In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the cooked sweet potatoes, rolled oats, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the mashed beans. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

  4. 4

    Form Patties

Using your hands, form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. If the mixture is too wet, add a bit more rolled oats to help bind.

  5. 5

    Cook the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns lightly if desired.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a cooked patty, sliced tomato, and sliced avocado.

  3. 8

    Add Condiments

Top with ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun over the burger.

  4. 9

    Serve

Serve the burgers warm with your favorite sides.
