Method
Bread Preparation
- 1
Slice the Baguette
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette diagonally into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
Topping Preparation
- 3
Prepare the Tomatoes
While the bread is toasting, chop the fresh tomatoes into small dice. Remove any seeds if desired for less moisture.
- 4
Chop the Basil
Stack the fresh basil leaves, roll them tightly, and slice them into thin strips (chiffonade).
- 5
Mix the Topping
In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic (use a garlic press or finely chop), salt, and black pepper. Toss gently until well mixed.
Assembly
- 6
Top the Bread
Once the baguette slices are toasted, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously over each slice.
- 7
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately as an appetizer or snack.
