Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Corned Beef

Shred the corned beef into thin strips, ensuring they are bite-sized for easy eating.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Puff Pastry

Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into strips that are about 2 inches wide.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, mix the shredded corned beef with salt and black pepper. This will add flavor to the filling.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Fill the Pastry

Place a spoonful of the corned beef mixture at one end of each pastry strip. Roll the pastry over the filling tightly to create a stick shape, sealing the edges with a fork.

  2. 5

    Egg Wash

Beat the whole egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top of each corned beef stick to give it a golden color when fried.

Frying

  1. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

  2. 7

    Fry the Sticks

Carefully place the corned beef sticks into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate and Serve

Serve the crispy corned beef shillelagh sticks hot with a side of spicy mustard for dipping.
