Battered Cod Filets
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Battering Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- 2
Add Beer
Slowly pour in the cold beer, whisking continuously until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let the batter rest for about 15 minutes.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep-fryer or large saucepan, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the fish filets.
- 4
Batter the Cod
Dip each cod filet into the batter, ensuring it's well-coated.
- 5
Fry the Cod
Carefully place the battered cod filets into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried filets from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
